Appraisal Group, Inc. has provided professional real estate valuation services throughout Virginia for more than four decades. Founded in 1979, our locally owned and operated firm serves a diverse clientele that includes law firms, accounting firms, financial institutions, government agencies, private investors, corporations, nonprofit organizations, executors, and individual property owners. Appraisal Group offers extensive experience in both residential and commercial real estate valuation. Our residential team serves Central Virginia, while our commercial team provides appraisal and consulting services throughout the Commonwealth. From traditional appraisal needs to complex valuation issues, we welcome challenging assignments and approach each with careful analysis and a commitment to providing thorough, well-supported appraisal reports. We value open communication and work closely with our clients to understand the requirements of each assignment.
President and Owner William (Will) W. Sanford Jr., MAI, joined Appraisal Group in 2002 and has led the firm since purchasing it from founder Ivo Romenesko in 2017. Will oversees the company’s commercial and residential operations, including most commercial valuations and valuation litigation assignments. Supported by an experienced team, current market resources, and ongoing professional education, Appraisal Group continues the commitment to independent, reliable real estate valuation established by the firm in 1979.

Experience within the firm provides a broad base upon which an extensive variety of analyses have been performed. Assignments are undertaken ranging from basic appraisal problems to detailed analyses of complex influences and values of property rights.
Appraisal Group, Inc. is one of the most recognized real estate appraisal firms in Central Virginia with offices strategically located in Charlottesville and Richmond. In order to stay abreast of the changing market, the firm subscribes to services including PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Real Estate Investor Survey, Marshall and Swift cost estimation service, and other data services. The firm maintains an extensive library, and appraisers attend numerous courses each year to update their appraisal education.
What We Do
Residential services include form appraisals of single family homes, condos, townhouses, lots, multifamily housing up to four units and estates. Commercial services include, but are not limited to, office buildings, apartment complexes, warehouses, retail locations, service stations, banks, doctor’s offices, hospitals, retirement/nursing homes, vacant land, subdivisions, historic rehab and adaptive reuse projects and industrial buildings.
